Trans España Camino

Intro

Over the years my love and interest in walking has steadily developed. In the last 4 years I have completed various lost distance walks.

So for 2013 I would like to complete a trans-Spain walk, from Tarifa, the southern most place in Spain to the Pyrenees.

The E4 is a European long distance route, which also does Tarifa to the Pyrenees, and continues through other countries to end in Crete, total distance 14,000 kms. According to the official European Ramblers Association the total E4 section in Spain is 2,300 kms.

The GR7 is a Spanish long distance route, which is also from Tarifa to the Pyrenees, and which according to Wikipedia is 1,900 kms long. The Gr7 and the E4 follow the same path up till Catalonia, at which point the E4 goes along the coast and the GR7 is slightly more to the west.

John Hayes and Paul on the Carnic Way

John Hayes has completed the E4 route in 2011. John and I completed the Carnic Way (Via Alpina; Austria/Italy) in Aug/Sep 2012. You can read John’s blog about his E4 walk at http://www.johnhayeswalks.com/p/e4.html.

Manuel Coronado Gil (http://gr7deandorraatarifa.blogspot.com.es/) has also completed the Andorra to Tarifa walk in various stages, and his total GPS reading is 1,990 kms, and he did follow the GR7 meticulously. I therefore tend to think that the route must be around 1,900 as in the Wikipedia.

Annual Camino

I am a member of a group of walkers, and every year at Easter we do a two week walk.  This year we plan to walk from Cabo del Gata to Lanjaron. I plan to be part of that walk. The programme is to start on the 3rd April and finish on the 17th April.

My Project

My project is to walk from Tarifa to Andorra. It will be in stages.

If you, the Reader of this page, would be interested in walking any part of the GR7, please get in touch.
